Wanindu Hasaranga picks third consecutive ODI five-wicket haul, equals Waqar Younis’ 33-year-old record

Wanindu Hasaranga picked up his third consecutive ODI five-wicket haul on Sunday, June 25, 2023, when Sri Lanka defeated Ireland by 133 runs in the ODI World Cup qualifiers.

Hasaranga's feat equals a 33-year-old record held by Waqar Younis of Pakistan.

Hasaranga took 5 for 24 in 9.4 overs against Ireland. He had previously taken 5 for 44 against the Netherlands and 5 for 26 against Bangladesh in Sri Lanka's previous two ODIs.

Hasaranga's performance has been a major factor in Sri Lanka's recent success in ODI cricket. He is the leading wicket-taker in the ODI World Cup qualifiers, with 23 wickets in 7 matches.

Hasaranga's record-breaking feat is a testament to his skill and talent as a bowler. He is a highly versatile bowler who can bowl both spin and pace. He is also a very accurate bowler, which makes him difficult to score runs off.

Hasaranga's performance is a major boost for Sri Lanka's hopes of qualifying for the 2023 ODI World Cup. They are currently in second place in the ODI World Cup qualifiers, and they need to finish in the top two to qualify for the tournament.

Hasaranga will be a key player for Sri Lanka in the upcoming matches. He will be looking to continue his record-breaking form and help Sri Lanka qualify for the 2023 ODI World Cup.
