Disgraced sports doctor Larry Nassar stabbed multiple times at Florida federal prison: AP source

Larry Nassar, the disgraced sports doctor convicted of sexually abusing female gymnasts, was stabbed multiple times during an altercation with another inmate at a federal prison in Florida, according to sources familiar with the matter.

The incident occurred on Sunday at the United States Penitentiary Coleman, and Nassar was reported to be in stable condition on Monday.

Details indicate that he was stabbed in the back and chest. Nassar, who was sentenced to decades in prison for sexually assaulting gymnasts, including Olympic medalists, is currently serving his sentence for convictions in state and federal courts.

The attack against Nassar at the prison comes after his admission of sexually assaulting athletes during his time at Michigan State University and USA Gymnastics.

Several athletes testified in 2018 that they had reported the abuse to adults, but it went unreported.

More than 100 women, including Olympic gold medalist Simone Biles, sought compensation for the FBI's failure to stop Nassar when allegations against him were first brought forward in 2015.

Nassar's actions led to significant settlements by Michigan State University, USA Gymnastics, and the U.S. Olympic and Paralympic Committee.

In June 2022, the Michigan Supreme Court rejected Nassar's final appeal, upholding his sentence despite concerns over the judge's conduct during the proceedings.
